Here we have a great example of a classic British Supercar that could embarrass many much more expensive types of its day.  The car is in Monaco White and has been excellently maintained throughout its life, it still drives and sounds superb.

Penned by Giugiaro, the Esprit had initially appeared as a one off design concept at the 1972 Turin Motor Show, by the time it went into production in 1976 little had changed. Beneath the wildly modern “folded paper” sharp edged GRP body is the Lotus trademark of a steel backbone chassis, but with a mid-mounted 2.2 litre slant-four engine cradled in a tubular frame

The introduction of the Lotus Turbo Esprit in 1980 that brought the car into the supercar league. There were 104 Essex branded cars built (with dry sumps). There were big improvements in reliability and chassis design (better torsional rigidity) and revised rear suspension geometry (the drive shaft no longer doubled up as the top link but was supplemented by a transverse link). These improvements also followed through to the normally aspirated S3 model of 1981. The Lotus Turbo Esprit was powered by the improved 910 engine and featured an AiResearch Garrett T3 turbocharger, which helped increased the engine power to 210 bhp. This gave the car an overall top speed of 153 mph and 0 - 60 time of 5.4 seconds. In 1981, the Essex name was drop and it was renamed the Turbo Esprit; with conventional livery, optional leather seats and air conditioning.

The car has “go kart” like steering, 2 turns, lock to lock, and could be hustled along at a rate that would embarrass Italian exotics twice its price and the body would not go rusty!

There is a superb history file with the car that includes receipts and records from its entire life, so the new owner can see how well and carefully the car has been looked after.  The engine was rebuilt in 1990, the car resprayed in 1996, head rebuilt in 2001, new clutch and interior refresh in 2004 and a hi-spec vented disc kit fitted..  There is a full service history to go with the other invoices and records and MOY’s present from 1992.  The current owner purchased the car in 2014 and has continued the regime of looking after the vehicle which has now covered 85 500 miles.  The car will be sold with a full 12 moth MOT.  CCCR are delighted to be acting as Agent for the owner.
